Lauren's Way Gets a New Look

Last Wednesday evening saw me head to the uber chic Jewel bar in Piccadilly where TOWIE star Lauren Goodger unveiled her new Lauren’s Way collection.

I don’t think there is anyone out there who doesn’t love a bit of TOWIE, and so I was somewhat excited about this event and interested to see the new collection, and of course the lovely Lauren herself!

The Lauren’s Way range, which launched earlier this year has solely comprised of tanning products. It’s been so successful that the collection is now expanding; featuring eyelashes, hair extensions and a new repackaged tanning range. Perfect for every Essex girl wannabe!

The evening was definitely a glitzy affair and I had a great time checking out the products and getting involved in a bit of TOWIE star spotting! I think it would have perhaps been nice for Lauren to speak a little about the products, but she was definitely in demand for chats and photos! So much so that she didn’t have time to properly cut the cake (which was aptly designed in the shape of her new Glam Tan bottle!). I was feeling a bit peckish so my guest and I took it upon ourselves to finish the job and indulge. I can definitely confirm that it was one tasty cake!

We were all very kindly given goody bags containing the new Lauren’s Way Instant Wash Off Glow, Lauren’s Way Bronzing Mousse, a set of Lauren’s Way false eyelashes and a piece of jewellery from the Butterfly collection. I’m really looking forward to trying the new products and attempting to rock the Essex glam style! I also have to say that I think the new packaging is definitely an improvement – it’s a touch more sleek but still conveys the fun and girly essence of the collection.

It was a fab evening – full of Essex goodness, so thanks so much to the ladies at Lauren’s Way for the invite.

How to Get Into Fashion with Rachel Zoe

There’s no doubt that Rachel Zoe knows her stuff about style. So when I heard that the big-haired glamour Queen not only will be strutting her stuff on the Selfridges floors but also sharing some tips in a 'How To Get into Fashion' talk, I thought this is something that may appeal.

As part of Marie Claire’s InSpire & Mentor campaign, this Sunday 18th September, Marie Claire’s Charlotte Moore will be quizzing Rachel Zoe on how she got to the top in the styling world. I Wanna be a Geek!

I am fully aware that I'm a bit late to the party on this trend, but I can't get enough of geeky specs at the moment. Well, admiring them on other people, at least. I'm just not sure that I could pull the whole preppy chic look off, but assuming I don't look like a complete idiot, here are some styles that I'm leaning towards trying...

I'm thinking that if I had glasses I enjoyed wearing (as opposed to my dated super cheapo frames that were the first pair I tried on), I would probably remember to wear the damn things! As I have a round-ish face, maybe a pair of glasses with a slight cat-eye frame would be best to avoid looking 12 years old and put a bit of a sophisticated spin on the geeky look?

iFabbo London Launch Event

As you may know from my last post, I attended the fabulous iFabbo event on Thursday evening and have just made 2 videos about it, which you can watch below.

I went along with my blogging partner in crime Lucy, and we met some lovely blogging ladies at the event including Fleur, Zoe, Lily and Louise to name only a few. (All of their blogs are brilliant, so make sure you check them out if you haven't already.)

If you're wondering what the whole iFabbo thing is about, in a nutshell, the organisation aims to unite and build relationships between bloggers and brands (new and established) and also enable bloggers to learn about 'the art' of blogging - almost like a blogging education without making it sound too formal! iFabbo wants to collate a directory of credible brands and bloggers and in the future, is planning to hold seminars and workshops, so it's definitely a great company to get involved with - especially if you're new to the blogging arena.

The videos below describe what we got in our iFabbo goody bags and are in 2 parts as it was impossible to condense the whole thing into 10 mins!

Review: Collection 2000 Cream Puff Moisturising Lip Cream

Last night I attended the fabulous iFabbo launch event, but I'll post more about that over the weekend. Right now I want to quickly mention a product that I have discovered because of the event - and more specifically something that was within the goody bag!

Our goody bags were quite literally, brimming with some incredible products. (On a side note, I can't believe how generous iFabbo and the brands they are working with were, and there will definitely be a range of reviews coming up on some of the amazing stuff we were treated to.)

So, Collection 2000. It's cheap, cheerful and takes me back to my 14-year-old self when I first started delving into the world of make-up (more specifically, working the Rimmel Coffee Shimmer lip - not a pretty look on a pale teen). I remember the first few essentials I ever purchased were by Collection 2000, and in recent years, what with the brand's cult products such as the concealer, tinted moisturiser and Apple Blossom lipstick, it does prove that you don't always have to spend loads to get nice results.

Anyway, I digress. After quite literally diving into my goody bag last night when I arrived home, at the bottom I found one of Collection 2000's new Cream Puff Moisturising Lip Creams. I received shade Fairy Cake 3 - a beautiful coral pink tone. Having tried this out today, I have to say, I am already a big fan of this product. Aside from the gorgeous and summer appropriate colour, the formulation is ultra moisturising, creamy, velvety and the product dries to a matte but non-dry finish and has stayed put!

Mango and Stylist Show us how to Work It!

Many apologies for the lack of posts over the last couple of months – let’s just say 2011 has been full of ups and downs including my dad being very ill, a break-up and consequently, me having to move house. However, I think it’s important to look on the positives – my dad is getting much stronger and that alone I am so thankful for because at the end of the day, family really are everything.

Anyway, back to the purpose of the post – fashion! Earlier this week I was invited to the Mango flagship store on Oxford Street for the Mango and Stylist magazine event. The evening marked the launch of the collaboration between the High Street retailer and magazine that aims to provide career women with workwear inspiration and how to be stylish in any work environment.

Stylist Laura Puddy talked us through an array of different Mango work inspired looks that were geared towards a different purpose such as going to an interview, working within a corporate environment, working in a relaxed/creative one and how to dress to score that promotion. Of course, you won’t be awarded a job or a promotion solely based on how you dress, but the right outfit definitely makes a first and lasting impression – as emphasised by Glenda Marchant, the publisher of Stylist magazine.

The outfits included a pretty floral jumpsuit, a fresh take on the classic trouser suit and midi skirts that prove you can still look conservative without being dull and constantly dressed in black. Accessories were also a prominent feature and used to really make the looks ‘pop’. Though I preferred some outfits more than others, they would all make a welcome addition to my closet!

The rails were also showcasing the current collections and I was particularly drawn to the items that completely capture the colour-blocking trend – lots of reds and yellows, some incredibly cute nautical inspired blazers and of course, the oh-so-this-season 70’s wide leg trousers and floral patterned shirts.

The collaboration will include a series of 11 advertorials and also incorporates a competition where you could win the chance to hold your own office party, with £50 to spend at Mango for you and 40% off for your friends/work colleagues. There are 20 parties to be won and you can enter via the Mango Facebook page.

I think Stylist magazine and Mango are a perfect collaboration for this campaign, and the idea innovatively solves a problem that many of us women (and even the most style savvy!) find to be the most challenging part of our day – dressing for work. I definitely think Mango has covered all bases so I would definitely check out the range if you’re in need of a workwear detox or overhaul!

Key Wardrobe Basics - The Breton Tee

One of my goals this year is to try and be a more savvy shopper. I want to only have things I know I will wear and feel fab in, and for my poor bursting wardrobe to comprise of key pieces that can be mix and matched as opposed to stuff that seems to just clutter up space and never sees the light of day.

The first item which I consider a must-have item is the 'Breton Tee'. Stripy tops have been a long-term obsession of mine, which I think goes to show just how timeless in style they are. They can literally be worn with anything - jeans, cigarette pants, shorts, blazers, flirty skirts and will always add interest to your look. I always think they look great paired with simple pieces such as a great pair of skinnies and a blazer and then jazzed up with statement accessories. If you're going for Parisian chic, of course, a navy blue or black and white option and strong red lips are a must!

Here are a few versions which I think will make a welcome addition to every wardrobe. And the excuse is, it's an investment, right!

Well, I know I say this every year but I can't believe it's 2011! Happy New Year to everyone! I enjoyed a lovely Christmas with my parents and boyfriend and it was my first year playing hostess! Luckily, no cooking disasters occurred which was a relief given that fact that I'm a hopeless case in the kitchen. In fact, one of my New Year's resolutions (or 'goals' as I'd like to think of them as resolutions are usually broken by mid-January), is to get a bit more familiar with my kitchen and it's yet-to-be discovered utensils as to be honest, my cooking skills need some serious work!

I'd really like to develop my blog this year too. I'm thinking of touching more on lifestyle content, experiment with more outfit photos, get better with my photography and of course, try and post more regularly. There are some amazing blogs out there that have really inspired me to try and develop mine more and make it a bit more substantial than what it is at the moment!

As for any other resolutions or goals, I think simply to be happy, healthy, work hard at my virtual assistant business, generally live life to the fullest and achieve a good work/life balance - that can be a tough one!

I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year and let's make 2011 a good one!

Product Rave: Eyeko 3 in 1 Cream

Last weekend I attended the Eyeko event and I have to say that I've been enjoying testing out the various products that we were very kindly given. For me personally, I think that the star of the goody bag show has to be the new Limited Edition Eyeko Cream Extra Glow.

I'll get the superficial stuff out the way - first and foremost the packaging is just gorgeous; very girly, pretty and kitsch. Perhaps not to everyone's taste, but I like it.

Now to the product itself. Well, it claims to be a 3 in 1 cream - a highlighter, a moisturiser and an eye cream. I have to admit I wouldn't use it solely as a moisturiser or an eye cream though the jojoba and vitamin E contained within the product does mean that it is gentle on the skin and it does have a 'moisturising' quality texture-wise. The main reason I would only use it for highlighting effect is that it is super duper glowy and to slather it on in the way I would my moisturiser would mean that I'd look like something from another galaxy. However, I regard that as a positive point as in terms of its effect as a highlighter, this is probably the best product I've used, and trust me, a little goes a long way.

The formula is incredibly iridescent and leaves a beautiful, radiant sheen to the skin. The way in which I've been using the cream is either mixed in with my foundation to create a more natural dewy look, or on top of make-up to highlight the cheekbones, the brow bones and cupids bow. If you don't need/want to use a foundation, when used on its own, it's also a nice way of providing the skin with a bit of natural looking 'pzazz' - though I recommend you go light on the application.

The Eyeko cream is priced at £8 which I think is fantastic for such a useable product that definitely provides you with that 'lit from within' look that we all so desire.

Liz Earle Skincare and Coconut Water

I recently decided that my skincare regime required a bit of an overhaul. My skin hasn’t been bad - I just feel it needs a bit of tlc, and as I’m now in my ‘late twenties’ (sad face), I should probably invest a bit more time taking care of my skin as opposed to my usual slap dash approach which currently consists of a very bland routine of Simple cleanser and moisturiser. I actually really do rate Simple skincare; it’s great for sensitive skin, is cheap as chips and keeps your skin looking nice. I just feel that a little more effort is now required.

So who do you turn to when you’re faced with a gazillion skincare brands tempting you with promises of amazingly glowy, hydrated and youthful looking skin? Whose whopping price tag does your bank balance suffer for? Well, in my case I have opted for the brand who everyone raves about (no, this isn’t an original blog post by any means), isn’t too damaging to the credit card and promises great results. Yes, Liz Earle strikes again.

Yesterday I caved and purchased the Liz Earle Mini 'Try Me' Kit for dry/sensitive skin which includes the legendary Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser (30 ml), the Instant Boost Skin Tonic (50ml), the Skin Repair Moisturiser (15ml), the Gentle Face Exfoliator (15ml) and 1 muslin cloth. After two uses my first impression is definitely positive – my skin feels slightly plumper, very refreshed and smooth. However, before I can give an honest review, I’ll give the set a try for a month or so and see how I go but so far so good! The kit cost a very reasonable £21 from John Lewis.

Whilst I was there, I thought it would be a travesty not to try out the Liz Earle shampoo and conditioner too (I went for the dry and damaged conditioner option) and I’m definitely expecting great things from these.

Another random bandwagon I’ve jumped on is drinking coconut water.

After hearing missglamorazzi rave about it on a recent video and reading about it on t’interweb, the benefits seem to be incredible (hugely improves your skin, is super hydrating, gives you energy, great for digestion etc...). If that isn’t enough to entice you, check out the blurb on the website-:

Wow!

I picked up three cartons of the plain Vita Cocos to try out from Holland & Barrett at £1.69 each though of course, I’m aware I’ll need a few more to probably notice any tangible results, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t too grim tasting! It’s actually fine – not amazing but definitely drinkable and with promises of those benefits, hell, who cares!

Eyeko Celebrates its 10th Birthday

Last night I was one of the lucky bloggers invited to the Eyeko 10th birthday bash which was held in a super snazzy function room at the Wenlock & Essex in Angel. First and foremost, I have to say that this was probably one of the most enjoyable events I have ever been to – we were looked after so well and each member of the Eyeko team took the time to talk to everyone which I think is a lovely touch and makes you feel involved; like the brand genuinely respects and values your opinion on the products.

We were treated to an array of gorgeous canapés, Lola’s Cupcakes, some fab tunes and a selection of cocktails which I have to admit, went down very well! We also got to take a look at some of the new Eyeko products and there was a manicurist on site to snazz up our nails (I took advantage and opted for the Chi Chi Polish), and even a tarot card reader - though I chickened out on this!

I was also very lucky to meet some lovely bloggers and YouTubers including Lucy from .lucy duckett. (who I stealthily stalked before the event in Starbucks), Guilia, Gemma from Gem's Maquillage, Nicola from Nicola VC86 and Eyeko's Ling whose goes under the name of moonbeamstarlight on YouTube. Everyone was so friendly and it’s great to meet everyone ‘in person’ after spending so much time reading their blogs and/or watching their YouTube channels online.

The goodie bag was also full of some great products to try out. I’m so excited to give the new Military Polish and Punk Polish a whirl as well as the Graffiti eyeliners pens. I’ve heard fab reviews on the mascara (the packaging is so pretty!) and the new lip glosses also come in a selection of gorgeous and wearble shades and are named after places in London such as Soho, Portobello and Shoreditch. Lots of testing will be carried out this week methinks so look out for some reviews......

Shiny Nails with Sally Hansen Mega Shine

I’m a big fan of nail polishes with a shiny finish – particularly if the tone of the polish is creamy, pink, lilac or mauve as I feel if gives a lovely groomed and well..'polished' finish! However, some nail polishes do somewhat lack the shine factor but I have now found a product that when applied onto any nail polish, gives a nice shiny finish and also prevents chipping.

The product in question is Sally Hansen Mega Shine and is available in Boots in the UK for around £6.45. The nail polish that I am wearing is Maybelline’s Express Finish Pearl in shade Violet Doux and with the Sally Hansen Mega Shine used as a topcoat. I love the effect and the pop of shine isn’t too OTT but enhances the colour of the Maybelline polish.

I’m also on the hunt for the perfect metallic gold and silver nail polish. Any suggestions of some good ones to try?

A Love Affair with Next

I have to say, I’ve been hugely impressed with Next over recent months. Sounds harsh but I always seem to remember it as a bit 'drab' and as my dad can never forget, the sales racks filled with stock that was kept out the back and wheeled out especially for sales time. I digress but that always makes me smile :)

So anyway, times have changed and the past few occasions I have perused the Next rails, I’ve struggled to come out empty handed – the Mulberry Alexa-a-like was a purchase I made a few weeks ago and last week I ventured in only to leave with a bag full of cosy winter goodies.

So let’s have a look at my recent Next indulgences. We all know that leather is big news this autumn winter and whilst I love the thought of slinking about in an oh-so-chic mini, I just don’t think I could pull that look off, so I opted for a more demure brown faux leather button down pencil skirt which I picked up for a very reasonable £30.

Everything seems to be adorned in fur and fluff this season and hell, I am embracing that as I love a bit of cosyness and it helps when you find these types of pieces that don’t make you look like either a 5 year old or a granny! I spied a gorgeous cropped jumper which is a cool toned blue/mauve and is so soft that it feels luxuriously indulgent against your skin and not at all rough or itchy.

This blue fur lined cardigan was also a must-have and I love the 'ice princess' colour tone of this piece.

I am very tempted to head back as there is so much choice and some amazing key items for autumn/winter.

Current Make-up and Beauty Loves

Apologies for the serious lack of blog posts of late. Work has been pretty manic and well, you know the drill!

In other news, it was my birthday on Saturday and I was incredibly excited to receive an amazing gift in the form of a new camera. It's is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-F2 so I'm really looking forward to finally getting some half decent shots on the blog!

I thought I would do a post about some of my favourite cosmetic products that I'm enjoying using at the moment. As we're moving into autumn, I'm shifting away from the golden bronzed look (well, I'm never really bronzed but I try and fake it at least) and am going for more autumnal inspired plum and berry toned colours. The first thing that has worked its way into my daily makeup routine is the NARS Multiple Tint in shade Cadaques. Despite it's shocking pink appearance, when swept over the cheeks, it gives a gorgeous fresh-faced and youthful glow and is also lovely when applied to the lips, creating a subtle stain effect. This gives you a translucent pop of colour that you can easily build up to create a more dramatic effect and is perfect to compliment my pale skin.

There was nothing more exciting as a little girl than when our Avon lady delivered all kinds of goodies to the door and my mum would have always ordered a few cute things for me such as bath products and nail polishes. Now we have this little thing called the internet, sadly I don't get the lady personally delivering my purchases to my door, but I still love the products. My current favourite lipstick in my collection (and I have a fair few!) is from the Ultra Colour Rich 24K range in shade Golden Rose which is a beautiful plummy pink, is incredibly moisturising and with a hint of sparkle. This lipstick is wonderfully versatile as you can build it up for a super dramatic finish or go a bit more neutral with just a slick of colour. This is one of the highest quality lipsticks I have ever used and at just £8 a pop (I think they are now on sale for £4) these are a brilliant investment.

Barry M has wooed me again and this time it is with the limited edition 030 nail polish which doesn't seem to have a name but can be described as a dark lilac with a strong hint of pink. In typical Barry M style, the product applies evenly and 2 coats leaves you with a perfect colour finish that will stay chip-free for a good few days. The 030 is priced at a regular £2.95 separately or is free when you spend £6 or more on any other Barry M products. I also love the gold lid as it makes the product look far more expensive! Maybe Barry M should incorporate this into all their nail polishes?

Finally, my new favourite scent of the season has to be Ghost the Fragrance. Yes, it's an oldie but it's definitely a goodie. I love the sweet floral and jasmine scent that isn't too overpowering and I think I'm particularly drawn to this because it reminds me of my childhood holidays when my mum probably wore it. I recently acquired this product again as a birthday gift and I am hooked. At around £23 for 30ml, it's also easier to justify a re-purchase!

So they are my favourite products of the season - so far. I do like to try and keep a good combination of budget products alongside some more luxurious and higher end ones to keep a reasonable balance!

Craving Autumn

In typical UK style, the weather seems to have turned somewhat dreary which only leaves me craving autumn even more. I love summer, but autumn is definitely my favourite season, especially when it comes to fashion - have you seen the InStyle A/W 2010 looks?? Thick tights, over the knee socks, faux fur, capes, red lips and loads of layers - I can't wait!

I'm also loving the 60's vibe that looks set to be big this autumn/winter. This Ponti Shift Dress from Topshop is perfect and with thick black tights and sky high shoe boots, would look incredible. The mustard colour is also a gorgeous shade to be rocking for autumn.

Alas though, autumn is not yet here and this cream Double Ruffle Tunic Dress (again from Topshop) is definitely more summer appropriate but also has a hint of 60's inspiration and I think could successfully transition through to autumn paired with dark tights?

Tried and Tested: FitFlops - Do they Live up to the Hype?

Shoes that tone your bum and thighs......I’m in! I am aware of course, that there are a number of footwear products on the market which claim to do this, and although I’m a sucker for anything that promises a quick fix at minimum effort, you do have to take a somewhat objective approach.

However, I’m always game to at least give things a go and was recently sent a pair of FitFlops to try out. If you haven’t come across these shoes before, the theory behind how FitFlops work is as follows-:

“FitFlop footwear is biomechanically engineered to help tone and tighten your leg muscles while you walk in them”.

According to the spiel, wearing a pair of FitFlops can increase the leg and calf muscle activity, improve muscle tone, improve posture and basically feel like you are walking bare foot but with more muscle load – which is why when walking in these, they feel super comfy, but your legs, buttocks and thighs are working harder.

After a few times of wearing the FitFlops, I have to admit that my legs definitely feel more ‘worked out’ and the shoes are indeed comfortable and don't tear my feet to shreds. I’m not the sort of person to take actual measurements to see if my legs have firmed up, but one thing I found very appealing was that they do force you to stand straighter and encourage you to 'walk properly'.

The other bonus is that FitFlops are available in a nice array of designs and trend inspired colours. I opted for a pair of the gold Walkstar 3’s and have received many compliments about the aesthetic appearance. They are not as flimsy or light weight as normal flip flops but because of the extra bulk, they also give you a nice lift and are super comfy with your feet feeling cushioned and well supported against the microfiber lining.

At around £44.99 for a pair, I wouldn’t say FitFlops are necessarily cheap, and don’t be fooled in thinking that they are a substitute for your normal workout - though they will certainly help to maximise it outside of the gym. The best advantage I have found is that I walk properly in them and definitely feel like my legs are working harder than normal. They are also durable and I'm positive will last longer than a pair of cheapo flip flops, so I think you’ll get your money’s worth.

TK Maxx Opens in Central London

Hell, if there’s one thing I love, it’s a bargain. Therefore I often enjoy a good snoop around TK Maxx because let's face it, if there is any shop with a bargain to be had, it's TK Maxx! Last night I was invited with some fellow bloggers to take a peek at the brand new TK Maxx store which has opened today on 120 Charing Cross Road which I imagine will get super busy due to it being the only one in central London - just take a look at this picture to see the queue first thing this morning!

Champagne bubbles were in full flow and we also enjoyed DJs and dancers all kitted out in the latest TK Maxx threads and giving it large on podiums in the main windows for all of Charing Cross Road to see and enjoy. One of the new brands that TK Maxx are launching in conjunction with the store opening is ModBox which is highly trend focused; representing fast paced fashion, and aims to bring out key looks on a month by month basis with themes including Varsity geek chic, upper East side glamour, Military looks and grungy Neo Rocker. Embellished tees, mini kilts and logos were very much a current focal point and although some of these weren’t quite to my taste and would more appeal to the teen market, many of the future ModBox pieces due for launch later in the year are right up my street, including faux fur leopard coats and bomber jackets and Nordic style jumper dresses.

The Gold label is also one that had many of us swooning and includes sought after designer labels such as Stella McCartney, Valentino and even Pucci (with a dress reduced down to £200 from £2000!). The shoe department had some fantastic bargains but I already have my eye on a pair of faux fur ankle boots due for launch soon and are like, totally essential for autumn.

I am also characteristically late on picking up on the satchel trend so looking forward to snapping up one these beauts.

The evening wouldn’t have being complete without catching up with Emily of My Fashion Life, Fi of Save our Shoes and new friends in the gorgeous forms of Amy from Wolf Whistle and Ellie from Pretty Much Penniless.

I'm having a bit of an obsession for watches lately - don't you agree that a fabulous watch can really add the perfect finishing touch to your look? The brand of watches that have recently hit my radar are Marc by Marc Jacob watches as I love the creative fusion of sophisticated but fun style that the collection has to offer.

John Frieda 'Go Blonder' - My Thoughts

In my never ending quest to find the perfect hair products that will make my repeatedly highlighted hair look and feel at its optimum potential (a difficult task, believe me), I was recently sent the Sheer Blonde Go Blonder shampoo and conditioner by John Frieda.

Any of you fake blondies out there will know how awful it is when you highlights or colour begins to turn a nasty shade of yellow, brass or bronze and these products are supposed to help combat that and claim to ‘gently lighten natural, colour-treated and highlighted blonde hair’ with the shampoo working to lighten the colour and the conditioner replenishing moisture and providing nourishment. They also claim to make your blonde hair ‘sparkle like sunshine’. So, without further ado, off I went to shower in hot pursuit of sparkling locks!

After using these two products together, I have to say I was very pleased with the results and one thing I noticed aside from colour was the volume it gave my hair. The colour did ‘lift’ and this is especially noticeable after a few uses. My hair is soft and manageable and the smell of the products is also rather pleasant without that harsh chemical scent that blonde enhancing shampoos sometimes have, leaving you wary about what’s actually in them. The Go Blonder products contain citrus extract and chamomile which definitely feels like a little injection of ‘health’ for your hair!

I would certainly recommend the Go Blonder range to anyone with highlighted or bleached hair as these are perfect for when your colour needs a bit of a boost and also make your hair look and feel healthy – which is what we all want, right??

Product Rave: Shu Uemura UV Underbase Mousse

Whilst recently browsing my local Space NK, I have come across a star product that is definitely worth a good rave about. Probably something I would have normally overlooked, I actually stumbled across this product when overhearing the MUA speaking to someone about the powers it possessed and like the sucker for make-up that I am, I had to give it ago. Plus I needed a primer. Well, that's what I told myself.

The product in question is the Shu Uemura UV Underbase Mousse which acts as a primer/make-up base and very importantly includes SPF 30 which for fair skinned ladies such as myself (well, for all skin types actually), is definitely a strong selling point. It is actually an improved and re-formulated version of a previous Shu Uemura mousse base though as I didn’t try that, I can’t compare the two but I thought it would be worth mentioning....

The mousse has a light and sheer tint so that in the summer especially, it can easily be worn on its own and nicely evens out the skin tone, adding a subtle sheen and brightening up the skin. The colour is very neutral and also leaves the skin incredibly soft and not at all oily when applied. As a mousse (and boasting a very lightweight) formula, it absorbs easily and my powder or foundation clings to it all day without budging. You can easily control how much product you dispense from the nozzle and am happy to report that it doesn’t dry out my skin at all. I only tend to require a small amount for maximum effect meaning that this product will last and so makes the somewhat expensive price tag of £28 a little more justified. My makeup remains fresh looking without the need of re-application and most importantly, stays put!

I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of investing in make-up that you can’t necessarily see if that makes sense but having found this, I now understand the concept and benefits of a really great primer and this one is a delight to use!

So last weekend, I head over to Earls Court to the Clothes Show London 2010 which was every shopaholic and fashion lover's heaven (even despite the sunshine!)

I cannot wait to wear this trench coat and adore the feminine lace detailing. The belt can also be tied in a bow at the back which definitely adds versatility.

Current Clothing Crush

Does anyone have those moments when you can be working, making lunch, or even reading and suddenly think 'OMG I need "insert clothing/accessory/shoe item of choice". I have been having one of those moments today and I will let you know now that the item I am craving is a long playsuit.

I am thinking that black would probably be the best colour in terms of wearability..wouldn't this one from asos look amazing with statement jewellery and killer heels or dressed down with gladiator flats and a statement belt? How the playsuit is styled in the picture is actually how I would it most as the asymmetric shoulder provides enough detail and visual interest without the need of dozens of accessories, and still looks ultra chic and effortlessly stylish.

This cuffed denim playsuit from New Look is also gorgeous and again, could easily be dressed up or down. Isn't it great when fashion is also comfortable??

I'm one of those people who hates getting their picture taken but alas, I decided to face my fear and break into the scary fashion blogging territory of posting an 'Outfit of the Day' picture.

So, here I am wearing a dress from Primark, denim waistcoat from Topshop, wedge shoes from New Look, H&M ring, River Island bangle and a Primark bag (which I think certainly looks more expensive than the £8 I paid for it!)

The Woes of London Dating - The Dating Detox Trailer

There are so many Chick lits being churned out these days, and as an avid reader of the Chick lit genre (in addition to other genres too....of course), some are better than others for sure.

I recently read the debut novel ‘The Dating Detox’ by author Gemma Burgess and I have to admit that despite working with Gemma for a period of time, I did force myself to read the novel from a completely unbiased approach, else what would be the point, right? Anyway, needless to say that I wasn't forced to lie in my feedback for the sake of not hurting someone’s feelings and this is definitely one of the best Chick lits I have read in a long time – mostly due to the typically English humour and portrayal of the London dating scene, which is all too familiar (sigh).

However, Gemma has also gone that extra mile, putting even more of her creative talents to use by writing and filming a trailer to help promote the Dating Detox. It was released for public viewing yesterday and I have to say, that the casting is just so spot on in terms of how I visualised the characters to be. Some book trailers do tend to be a little...um...dull but this one is vibrant, funny and so easy to watch that you are left wanting more. Also, Gemma has a nice little cameo – see if you can spot her!

Vintage Vs High Street Fashion

When it comes to summer style and even style in general, I tend to shy away from vintage fashion as I'm never quite sure if it suits me or if I'll look like a throw back from the 'olden days'. Some people can just 'do' vintage so effortlessly and though I don't think I fall into that category, this summer I'm determined to be more adventurous!

By adding a few vintage accessories or key pieces, you can instantly inject a unique touch to a current high street ensemble and it definitely enables to to put your own stamp on a popular trend that can see everyone looking like clones.

Sex and the City 2 with Lactofree

On Friday night, I was invited to a private screening of Sex and the City 2 at the Odeon cinema in Covent Garden by the people at Lactofree. The commercial that Lactofree have made was also airing for the first time at this particular screening which is designed to raise awareness of how lactose intolerance affects a huge number of people and how the lactose free products made by Lactofree can help to combat this, and allow sufferers to make a simple lifestyle change without feeling neglected of lactose or the essential nutrients contained within it.

So, as for the film itself? Well, the excitement and anticipation was evident as we all settled in our seats, cocktail and popcorn in hand, wondering what was in store. Ok, to be blunt, Sex and the City 2 doesn’t have a gripping storyline and I was a little disappointed that the majority of the film was set in Abu Dhabi when it is that essence of the girls living in New York that makes the series and the first movie so easy to become submersed in and as viewers and fans; what we are familiar with. Also, the fact that Carrie is now married is just something that is difficult to get used to and though I hate to say this, it just seems like they are all a little too old now to be doing this.

However, Sex and the City was probably never intended to boast gripping and thought provoking plots and let’s face it, it is the fashion, the shoes, the boyfriends, the cocktail bars and Samantha’s hilarious sexual antics that provide our escapism when watching. Indeed, there are some beautiful outfits although again, there are only so many head scarves and maxi dresses you can take before you’re willing Carrie to return to her ballerina skirts and sky high Louboutins that define her sassy character and New York lifestyle. Some people have said that they found some of the elements within the film disrespectful to Arabic culture and also that Samantha’s constant referral to the menopause was a little offensive – to be honest, I didn’t think too much about it and I think in contrast, there were some lovely and somewhat poignant moments such as where Charlotte and Miranda admit to one another that they find motherhood a struggle. Miranda’s less-uptight character is fabulous in this movie and of course, Samantha’s one-liners are typically hilarious proving that after all of these years, her character hasn’t really changed at all - on the inside.

It does frustrate me a little that the film critics go to the utmost effort to claim that the film is awful, ghastly, appalling blah blah blah. No, it isn’t as good as the first one and yes, it does move away from the Sex and the City that we all know and love and no, there are no Oscar worthy performances. I don’t think it would be a great idea if they made a third film – I’m not entirely sure where they could go with it from here. But if they did, would I go and watch it? Hell yes, of course!

Denim is hot news - for this season more so than ever. I have to admit, I love a bit of denim - which is why am very excited to hear that next week, mywardrobe are launching the first ever Denim bar Pop-Up Shop next week on London's uber trendy Carnaby Street. The temporary shop will be open from 12-8pm on 27-28th May whereby you can enjoy a Tanqueray No.10 my-martini, whilst browsing the SS10 denim collections (denim shopping is thirsty work ya know?!)

There are also five pairs of tickets up for grabs for the spectacular Denim Bar Launch Party on Wednesday evening - to be in with a chance of getting your mits on a pair, you have to take part in the 'Urban Denim Dash' - to find out more and where/how to enter, just follow the mywardrobe Facebook Page and check for updates.

The new mywardrobe Denim Bar (with the help of the my-wardrobe experts and guest stylists including thechicgeek) aims to show us how we can find the perfect pair of jeans according to our shape and our style preference. Sounds very exciting right?? I was lucky enough to receive a gorgeous shiny gold invitation to the Launch Party next Weds evening which contained a Nudie denim pocket!

Playing Catch Up

So this is the first post that I have written on here in a month - I can't believe how quickly time goes! But, I do have an excuse :) I have recently moved into a new flat and unfortunately couldn't get the internet installed for 2 weeks (gasp!) which set me back somewhat!

Other than moving, here are a few other things I have been up to-:

1) I have just launched my Virtual Assistant business (admin and editorial) which I have aptly named Your Laura.

2) I have also been working on blogs and videos for a cool new website called StyleFrame. You can check out the video I made for them below!

3) I'm incredibly excited to currently be writing for my all time favourite street style website Hypeed which is based in Paris. I wrote a post about Hypeed here last month. Check out our latest Trench Coat feature where we received some amazing contributions!

4) I am also now blogging (yes I know, I'm a blogging whore - apart from on my own blog) for the amazing shopping website Shop Pulse. My first blog on Style Royalty went live today and it was covering the New Look Autumn/Winter 2010/11 preview. You can read that post here.

So that is about it in the land of Miss Laura. I promise to be a little more active on here from now on however as my poor little blog has become somewhat neglected.

A Sneak Inside Whiteleys Pop Up Stores Launch Party

Thursday night saw the launch party of the Whiteleys Pop Up stores and I was lucky enough to receive an invite from the lovely Carina at Self Service. It was definitely quite the fash bash and the pop up shops involved included Junk Food Clothing, The POP Store, The Bower of Bliss Store and FrostFrench - all of which are selling amazingly cool and quirky pieces by gorgeous brands such as Wildfox and Disney Couture.

A whole host of celebs were of course, in attendance. Jemima French and Sadie Frost both looked smouldering in their boudoir-esque setting, keen to talk about their latest FrostFrench collections and proving incredibly popular with the press. Other celebs we spied included Jameela Jamil of T4 fame as well as new T4 presenter Nick Grimshaw who was sporting a very impressive quiff. Singer Eliza Doolittle also rocked up in some cute short dungarees and Kelly Osbourne (pictured below) was perhaps the most talked about celebrity with her new slender figure and glamorous ensemble comprising of a classic white shirt, black leggings and a chic black shoulder-padded jacket. She also accessorised her new look with model boyfriend Luke Worrell.

Alice Dellal provided musical entertainment with her new band Thrush Metal which I have to admit was a little too shouty for my liking and the old man masks and suits freaked us all out a little, but she was certainly entertaining!

I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, not only because of the great Pop Up stores but also the fab company including Alice from Shop Pulse, Emily from My Fashion Life and of course Carina from Self Service. The miniature champagne bottles were in full flow and the Tequila bar concocting all manner of Tequila cocktails also proved a popular stop-point in between admiring the clothes and indulging in a spot of celeb spying on the red carpet.

The Pop Up shops are definitely worth a look if you’re in West London as not only are the shops filled with some wonderfully unique and impressive pieces but the layout and fine attention to decor detail also makes the experience far more than simply browsing clothes and jewellery. The Disney Couture store has a wide array of stunning jewellery designs including a selection of amazing Tom Binns necklaces presented in circular domes against a forest inspired backdrop. There were also some super cute pet accessories including dog bowls and leads! The Junk Food and Wildfox tees are definitely sure to grab your attention with typically divine styles. Shopping heaven!

Rave Review: Revlon 'Minted'

I've limited myself to a pretty strict (well, more sensible) budget in recent months due to the nature of freelancing and moving house and have found that when I crave some fashion love, I just pop to Superdrug and buy some nail polish. Isn't it just the best creation to instantly and cheaply update your look? (Or, maybe I'm just sad..)

Yesterday, I was looking at the new Revlon shades and the 'Minted' shade caught my eye. Of course it did. It's a blatent copy of the Chanel Jade nail polish. I have also tried the Barry M Mint Green version but this just didn't quite do it for me. The shade is a little too what I would describe as 'alien green' but the Revlon polish is bang on the money for me. The application is smooth (I really like the long brush) and with two coats you get a lovely even finish with strong colour which is a gorgeous...well, mint green and is a little lighter that the Barry M version.

For around £7, this definitely satisfied my fash craving and comes highly recommended by moi.

Go Swapping Not Shopping with Skinny Cow!

This weekend, I was invited to attend and participate in the Skinny Cow celebrity Swap Shop in London. Now, I have never been to one of these swap shop (or swishing) events before but after hearing that a Mulberry bag may be up for swapping grabs I was indeed pretty excited but perhaps a little concerned that my cheaper offerings were either going to get turned away or sadly left hanging on the rails.

I arrived and was taken into a separate lounge with a few fellow bloggers and competition winners who won tickets to the event via the Facebook competition. What better way to start a rainy grey Saturday than by being served with a Skinny Cow Hot Chocolate and able to share a good ol' natter with everyone!

We were then shown into the swapping room to get a preview of all the clothes available. Kelly Brook was hosting the event and I have to say – wow, this girl is absolutely stunning - serious envy! Other celebs who had contributed their threads included Sarah Harding and Holly Willoughby so we were all eager to have a good poke around. The room was also nicely decked out with cute Skinny Cow themed boudoir style decor which was a nice touch.

Everyone was then let in and luckily there were no handbag fights or shoes thrown at one another (think of Confessions of a Shopaholic sample sale scene). It was busy but friendly and though it was a challenge to find pieces that you wanted, it wasn’t too tricky to seek out some gems. I am so happy with my finds; a Ringspun military inspired jacket, statement choker necklace and a pink and black Siren stripy cardigan with gorgeous embellished detailing on the back. There was some seriously good clobber (designer and high street) and I am pleased to say that I know at least one of my contributions go to a very good home.

What I found I loved about swapping/swishing is that it really brings home the excitement of finding the perfect item – and even better, at no cost! It is also really exhilarating to see how something that has been gathering dust in your wardrobe is going to breathe new life on someone who it will look fabulous on.

The whole aim of the Skinny Cow Swap Shop is to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The event was a huge success and everyone seemed thrilled with their finds so it’s also nice to know that our passion for fashion has also helped an incredibly worthy cause.

Keeping it Real with Hypeed

I am a huge fan of real fashion (see this post) and a few weeks ago I stumbled across a new website/magazine which explores and defines everything I love about the concept of 'real fashion'.

Based in Paris, Hypeed is an online website and magazine whereby all the features are created and inspired by everyday people, taking snaps of themselves sporting the latest trends and of course, their own unique outfit creations. For example, a current feature is 'The Clutch Bag Trend' and readers can upload their pictures of themselves rocking their clutch bags which not only encourages a community style form of interaction but readers can also use the pictures as inspiration for their own looks.

The online community determines which contributions will be selected for the finished magazine feature (which also includes nice bite-sized editorial sections detailing the specific look or trend and some info on the selected contributions) via a scoring process. All contributions begin with an equal chance of being included in the final feature and Hypeed take into consideration both the quality of the images and the scoring to decide which contribution will be selected as the main cover and also how many contributions to include within the whole feature. This encourages people to take pride in their shots and looks and of course, be creative.

Hypeed never hires in professional models or photographers and relies solely on photo contributions to generate its content. Your points can also turn into rewards which is another little added incentive!

What Hypeed wholly embodies is the concept of real fashion by real people and there isn't a glimpse of a catwalk show in sight. Of course, designer fashion plays an incredibly valuable, vital and prominent role in the fashion industry and is what ultimately inspires and defines high street fashion, but it's also nice to see how the high street and unknown brands can be given some unique exposure.

Great style doesn't have to come with a whopping price tag, ya know!

Rochas Collection PFW - Channelling the 60's

Catching up on the shows from Paris Fashion Week, the one which has definitely caught my eye is the Rochas collection. Wonderfully 1960's inspired with big bouffant hair, smokey eyes and nude lips the collection is glamorous and chic but not too overly cutesy.

The movie ‘Cactus Flower’ from 1969 and starring Goldie Hawn was the inspiration for Marco Zaninin’s third collection for Rochas and though the 60's theme is certainly the foundation of the collection, it still manages to remain unique and vivid comprising of lime greens, blues, lemons and peaches as well as pretty pink, brown and beige colour combinations in a variety of exciting materials and textures - all the pieces are very wearable and fun with ruffled collars and sleeves, animal print, cropped trousers and shift dresses.

I am a huge fan of the 60's so this look is definitely on my radar.

Get Clogged

Ever since Alexa Chung was seen sporting a pair of Chanel clogs at the Chanel Couture 2010 show in Paris, they have unsurprisingly been deemed the shoe of the season. Whilst they look like they could be a little heavy for smaller pins, I have to admit they definitely add depth and a certain something teamed with a feminine nude dress and tights heading into spring.

Whilst we can't all swan about wearing Chanel, I found via my new online addiction Shop Pulse, an amazing and non budget breaking pair of studded clog mules from River Island for £44.99 in pretty beige tone with stud detailing and a buckle over the top.

I reckon these would also look amazing with a cropped pair of boyfriend style jeans.

Well, give me some plaits and just call me Helga!

Jumping on the Barry M Bandwagon

It really does got to show the power beauty bloggers have. I have to admit, I'm a cosmetic marketer's dream when it comes to pretty packaging and such like, but when some of my fave beauty gurus recommend a product, I find I'm much more inclined to dash out and buy it than if it was suggested in a high profile magazine.

I digress. So, Barry M - I'm not a complete stranger to the brand but I have never exactly been bowled over by the make-up products - nail varnish, hell yes, but the lip glosses have always seemed a little OTT for my liking and my skin tone. However, I've continually noticed that people have been raving about the 129 Barry M lip paint 'Palest Lavender' which is a pretty lilac tone that I've never even considered trying having always been a little boring when it comes to experimenting with lip colour. I have to say I love this; the colour is great for spring (though will be better with a tan - wishful thinking Laura) and the formula is creamy and non-drying. At around £4.29 it has been a worthwhile addition to my collection and something a bit different.

America's Next Top Model Online Challenge 7 - Make-Up With a Twist!

So this week, the America's Next Top Model seventh online challenge is perfect if you like to get creative with make-up! In this week’s episode we see the models star in a cosmetics commercial and to keep the theme related, for this challenge you have to send in a head shot demonstrating your best make up artistry.

However, there is a slight twist which will really test your skills as to assess the transformation, the judges want to see a before and after shot in the same picture. You need to submit a photo whereby one side of your face is completely natural and without makeup and the other side is fully made-up - be as daring, creative, colourful and trend inspired as you wish.

A Passion for Real Fashion

What with London Fashion Week dominating all talk of fashion over the past few days, I have to admit when reading the reviews of the new collections and emerging designers, it can sometimes become a bit of a blur. Of course, I love designer fashion in its true sense but these past few months I’ve been increasingly drawn to the style blogs and websites that promote unique everyday street fashion and I somehow find this a lot more comforting, probably because it is style that you can easily try yourself and use the looks as inspiration in a way that is attainable. That probably sounds like a really obvious thing to say but I personally find the whole concept of runway fashion a little scary; not in the sense that I don’t think I can pull it off but because it seems like a world that I just don’t really – fit into (literally probably, and personally).

There has been a lot of talk about a small percentage of fashion bloggers ruining the reputation of those fashion bloggers who really know their stuff – from the terminology to the history of the designers and most importantly, how to review a collection intelligently and correctly.

So many fashion bloggers who have attended Fashion Week have tweeted about the experience, but much more so about the celebrities they’ve met and how hung over they are from the previous night’s party. It’s so boring.

Most of my favourite fashion blogs include The Blonde Salad, The Style Diet, What I Wore, Gala Darling and Style Scrapbook to name only a handful and yes, they are majorly popular but I think because they write about their own personal style in a way that isn’t intimidating but that we can all relate to. All of these bloggers can also write about the shows at Fashion Week as good as any Fashion Editor but what grips their audience is that they are real, unique, and girls we’d all like to be mates with! They convey the real relationship between (often affordable) clothes, style and fashion with positive body image and how that is unique to every individual.

Fashion is a business yes, but it should be fun. I find it so much more inspiring when it’s a bit more....well, real and not all about parties, champagne, and getting pictured with Jodie Harsh.

ANTM Season 13 – Week 4 Online Challenge ‘Statement Accessories’

So America's Next Top Model Season 13 is in full swing and this week's online challenge (read more about the weekly challenges and competition here) is all about Statement Accessories! Ooo, this one is definitely fun :)

Accessories are a huge key trend for spring/summer and the bolder the better. It's amazing how a vibrant gold necklace, a chic statement bag or a cute pair of heels can transform an outfit and add increase its wearability factor.

This week saw the second episode of season 13 of America's Next Top Model and as informed in my previous post the show in collaboration with ASOS and LIVING is giving viewers the exciting opportunity to get involved and with weekly challenges all geared towards mastering the craft of becoming a top model.

So, for Week 2, this one is all about the 'Smize' or 'smiling with your eyes' - a favourite of Tyra's.

America's Next Top Model - Unleash your Inner Model with Online Challenges!

Those of you who are fans of America’s Next Top Model (that will be everyone then!) will probably already know that Season 13 began with a bang last Monday. It's refreshing to see that this season is slightly different however as all the contestants are 5'7'' and under – in fact, you had to be 5’7” or under to apply, proving that the catwalk is perhaps opening up to the fact that beauty can also be found in shorter gals.

A fierce looking Tyra, once again leads the panel of judges alongside photographer Nigel Barker, modeling guru and stylist Jay Manuel and runway expert Miss J. This series the panel also welcome a weekly guest judge, notorious for being a fashionista, to help critique the aspiring next top models. (Ex-Hills star and designer Lauren Conrad is set to be the guest next week!!).

But the really exciting news is that everyone has the chance to get involved. To celebrate the new season, America's Next Top Model will be setting a series of challenges (one each week) to see if you’ve got what it takes to be a top model and style Queen.

Basically all you have to do is upload a photo or video in response to a new challenge set each week running from 11th January until 17th March. Expert judges from LIVING and ASOS (including Zeba Lowe – the head of styling for ASOS magazine) will then choose a winner each week who will get their mittens on £100 worth of ASOS vouchers. Winners will also be broadcast at the end of each episode of ANTM on LIVING.

There will be 9 challenges in total and one big fabulous fashionable grand prize for the person who has completely wowed the judges in true ANTM style. This person will star in their very own ANTM themed photo shoot styled by ASOS, get an exclusive invite to the ASOS season preview and bag a tailored piece from the new season’s collection.

The Sweet Sound of Chanel

Wow! So imagine if you love playing the guitar (like me - though not very well) and you like Chanel (like me - though I unfortunately can't afford it) and the two were combined to create......a Chanel guitar? Yes, it is true *sigh* *swoon*.

Now apparently this little beaut was debuted at the Paris Spring 2009 Fashion Week, though I don't know how I've only just stumbled across its existence. The super schmexy black nylon string acoustic is priced at £2800 AND comes with a padded gig bag.

Mmmm, I think I've just found an incentive to practice more.....

Product Rave - L'Oreal Hydrafresh

So I know Christmas isn't about presents, but isn't it great when you get some really good stuff?! I always know that return back to London, my (probably new!) bag brimming with new cosmetics and make-up that will see me through the first couple of months of the New Year. After giving all the goods a go over the past two weeks, one product has really stood out for me so far.

L'Oreal Dermo-Expertise Hydrafresh. A moisturiser which is an 'ultra-hydrating gel-cream' - that's what it says on the tin and yes, that's what it does. Since using this over the past couple of weeks, me skin has looked and felt smoother with a fresh, dewy glow and much more hydrated (much needed after the New Year champs!).

The formulation is a combination between a gel and a cream and the scent is reminiscent of a combination of cucumber and watermelon - yum. The ingredients include vitamins (C, E and B5) and essential minerals (Magnesium and Calcium).

At around £7 a pop this is definitely a bargain buy and I've found that I'm not using as much as my regular Simple moisturiser. Definitely worth a try if you have normal/dry skin that needs a bit of extra hydration.

Happy New Year!

I've never really been into 'New Year's Resolutions' in a big way but 2010 feels like a year which is definitely starting on a positive note and I feel a little more inspired and motivated to make this year amazing both personally and professionally.

So, here is the good stuff achieved in 2009-:

- I found an amazing relationship with a wonderful man who makes me insanely happy - I'm not usually one to shout out about things like this but hell, who cares, it's true.
- I had a style piece published in the London Metro
- I visited LA and San Francisco - in true goddamn style!
- I was able to go fully freelance as a writer. It still feels strange not knowing quite how much I'll be earning each month but the insecurity definitely drives you!

Lots of other great things happened too but those are certainly the highlights.

So, now for some goals for 2010 - I say goals instead of resolutions because that makes me think more long term and resolutions always tend to dwindle away by mid Feb.

- Continue being a freelance writer....
- Get back into music, singing and songwriting
- Read 1 book per week and keep a record of what I have read
- Do more dance classes - at least 2 per week. Much better than the gym.
- Try and look my best every day even when working at home (when you wfh pyjamas are a tempting option but it makes you kinda slack in the style department!)
- Start my own business
- Make more effort to understand Politics
- See more of London (amazing how I've lived here for 8 years and still don't feel I've gotten to know it properly)
- Visit New York with the boyf
- Start making YouTube vids - make-up, style, vlogs etc - just for fun. I'm a bit scared but I've been really inspired by some great YouTube gurus during 2009 and want to give it a go!

Well, today is actually January 3rd so I know I'm a little late but as tomorrow is the proper new year as its the first working day, I'll let myself off :)

Hello Sailor!

After popping into Topshop on Oxford Street yesterday (only to shelter from the snow, of course), it struck me how many amazing pieces they have at the moment - I mean, more than usual. I can't actually remember the last time I went in an literally wanted everything. I think one of the looks I'm really loving at the moment is the nautical theme and I tried on these super flattering navy blue wide leg trousers high waisted trousers with gold buttons (£40) that I subsequently didn't buy and now I'm experiencing that impending feeling of regret knowing that they won't have my size when I return.

The range of cute cropped jumpers and tees work really well with high waisted trousers - I'm shorter in the body and have longer legs so have always find high waisted trousers difficult to deal with as it seems that they somehow come up to my neck - not a good look. However, styled with the right top I found that they do in fact work so I definitely think I'm going to have to face a painful pre Christmas weekend return.....

Another nautical delight is this super cute sailor girl dress from Miss Selfridge for £38.

Style Focus: Edie Sedgwick

There are many style icons from the past and present that we take inspiration from, but the one lady who does it for me more than anyone is Andy Warhol's swinging 60's muse Edie Sedgwick. I find everything about her fascinating; her character, story and style and she definitely reaffirms for me that you can never wear too much eyeliner, too fake eyelashes and the bigger the earrings the better! Also, that tights and leotards are perfectly acceptable attire.

Her story was tragic but in her short 28 years, she created one of the most iconic looks and styles of all time and was one of the first ladies who earned the title of an 'It Girl'.

Love her.

A Special Treat By Terry This Christmas

So what with Christmas coming up, I decided to splash out on a special gift for mum who like myself, is a make up, beauty and cosmetic addict. I ventured into Space NK (a little out of my usual cosmetic territory I have to admit!) and picked up a couple of By Terry products. Having heard some great reviews from YouTube guru Laura lollipop26 and a bit of a recent buzz about the brand I thought this would be a nice opportunity to purchase and let mum (hopefully!) benefit from the effects.

The first is from the new Serenite De Rose range (the packaging is pink so it must be special right??) specifically, the Masque Renovateur which is said to detoxify, tone and replenish the skin. This new range contains White Rose, Scarlet Rose and Pastel Rose - all gorgeous and nourishing for the skin and rejuvinating for a glowing and soothing finish.

The second product I bought was the By Terry Mascara Blackstar which is said to create ultra volume and maximise the lash length with the use of 'Keratin-Like' Micro-Extensions. This is supposed to give the ultimate false, full and flirty Bardot-esque lashes.

I've heard great things about the By Terry brand and really looking forward to seeing the effects of these products. Hopefully mum will let me have a *small* sample of them too :)

Jedward Get a Makeover!

I was a huge fan of John and Edward and since their departure of X Factor I haven't even bothered to watch the show. I personally found their over-excited puppy like demeanour and silly outfits quite endearing and also thought that they added something a bit more light-hearted and entertaining to the X Factor without the need of tears and tantrums.

Anyway, today I stumbled across this pic of the somewhat revamped Jedward which is a shot of them post Grazia make-over and I don't know about you but I think they look HAWT! What a transformation!

I somehow don't think we have seen the last of these two......

This fabulous little number in the form of an embellished shoulder cropped blazer is from Miss Gorgeous - what really caught my eye about this is the unique draped chain detailing.

Wild for Wildfox!

Yesterday I was invited to the Wildfox Bloggers event and was very excited to preview the Spring 2010 'Young Guns' collection. Wildfox is one of the hot brands of the moment and I love the comfy laid back style of the tees and sweat shirts.

The brand was founded in LA and this particular collection takes inspiration from the 80's in a 'Thelma and Louise' and 'Pretty in Pink' kind of way. When I hear that something is based on 80's fashion, it usually fills me with horror but this collection has just the right level of 80's suggestion with colourful bold, graphic prints that can be teamed with anything from a bodycon skirt to leggings and even trackie bottoms.

My favourite pieces are the horoscope t-shirts (this line is actually already out) which are available in each star sign. These t-shirts are 'one size fits all' and are more baggy on the gals which means that you can style them off the shoulder and team with loads of chunky jewellery. The sparkly heart long sleeved tee and a hot pink slinky 'No 9' logo t-shirt also caught my eye. What I also really liked is the low V necklines on some of the styles which can often be far more flattering than a normal round neck.

These are the sort of t-shirts and sweatshirts that you can wear when you want to look fab in an undressed up kind of way - Whitters Port pulls this look off incredibly (she incidentally loves the Wildfox brand too). You can also dress them up with little skirts and killer heels. When washed, the shirts have that vintage and slightly worn-in look which means minimal wash and ironing effort - always a good thing!

The goodie bags filled with American candy (and some healthy Vitamin Water) were also a nice yummy touch! It's love all round.
